Cats can find the strangest of places to sleep in. It can leave cat parents puzzled why their fur babies is able to fit in and get comfortable napping in such spaces. What if you have a cat that chooses to sleep in the litter box of all places. It could mean your kitty has a behavioral or medical issue. Let’s dive in below.

Behavioral issues

The size of a litter box can offer the kitty comfort and security as cats generally like to curl up in tight enclosed spaces. The smell of the litter box is also a factor why your cat likes to sleep inside because it smells like them and they feel a sense of familiarity being inside.

To prevent this from happening, you should get a nice, cozy box lined with blankets and pheromones. This will make a better substitute instead of the litter box. The blankets and pheromones will entice your cat to sleep in the new box.

For better accommodation, let your kitty choose the blanket texture and bed type. While some cats are fine with the normal boxy kind of bed, others prefer a bit of space to lounge around. For older cats, you may want to consider beds that are friendly to their aging joints.

The location of the bed should be easily accessible to your kitty cat especially older cats with arthritis. They can find it out to climb in and out as they get older with aging joints. So do take note if you have an elderly kitty.

Medical issues

Cats that frequent their litter box can be suffering from UTI, bladder stones, crystal formation in the bladder or kidney (struvite crystals). These infections causes the bladder lining in cats so inflamed that even the tiniest amount of urine in their bladder will cause them to pee on the spot.

Or your cat could have a stone lodged in the urethra causing an obstruction. This is why you see cats frequent the litter box and yowling in pain trying to urinate but nothing comes out. This is a life threatening and medical emergency which you should bring your cat to the vet clinic immediately in this case of urethral blockage.
